H.G.C.A. CLUB HISTORY
The Houston Gun
Collectors Association (HGCA) was born out of the dreams of three
men who were collectors of weapons that had a desire to meet other
men who had similar interest. The three men were: Harry C.
Knode, Paul Janke and James C. Voulgaris.
This committee
of three sent out letters to all the collectors in this locality
know to them to meet on Friday, June 23, 1950 in the Commerce Building
in downtown Houston, Texas. There were twenty-four men at
that meeting and twenty-two signed up as founding members.
The first regular
meeting was held on July 15, 1950 and four offices were filled:
President, Harry C. Knode; Vice President James C. Voulgaris; Vice
President, B.H. Darrough; Secretary - Treasurer, Paul C. Janke.
These men guided our club during those early years by having a common
objective: To create and perpetuate an association of mutual benefit
to all of its membership interested in the collection, preservation,
history, and use of all types of arms and their accessories; to
hold monthly meetings; to sponsor gun shows for the benefit of its
membership; and to maintain the highest standards through the promotion
of fellowship, friendly competition and goodwill among its membership.
This bond has blossomed into the Largest Gun Show in Texas.
